Status Update - Stupid Ridiculous And Dangerous

Postby Taz666 » Tue Apr 01, 2008 11:35 pm

Well another couple of bottles of scotch have evaporated, and project Gixxer has evolved. No new photos yet but will post some up this weekend. Shoudl have the paint finished by then.

Concessions to old age: -

Pressure Suit body armour
Padded shorts
Asterisk Knee Braces (already have a stuffed ACL & MCL)
Draggin' camos so they fit over all the other
Still trying to work out whether I want to sacrifice my favourite jacket or just wear a Jersey over the armor, I am large'ish and freedom of movement becomes and issue.

Work done to date;

Replaced the tank (original crushed when it hit the tree - previous owner)
Replaced the Airbox, Inlet manifolds, Carburetor Parts and fitted a new K&N filter (it hit the tree tank first and really hard!!)
Carbs balanced and jets cleaned
12 Bar fitted - thanks Keasty
Crash cages fitted
Renthal Chooky bars, risers and bushes
60 Tooth Rear Sprocket
Wiring loom minimised - gotta love sidecutters
New wavy front brake rotors

Extended the throttle cable
Streetfighter style headlight/number plate
Replaced water pump seals and radiator hoses
Hotwired the fan
Dead mans switch fitted
Extended chain guard
Gun metal grey metallic paint and airbrushed murals - If I'm gunna screw up I'm gunna do it on a good looking bike
Fresh oil & Brake fluid
Ultra efficient choke cable manufactured from high quality coat hanger

The to do list: - parts for this are sitting on the bench

Finish airbrush murals and clear the paint (encouragement not to screw up too quickly)
Replace water pump seals and radiator hoses
Fit new wavy front brake rotors
Fabricate and fit braided front brake lines
Fit ignition switch - toggle switch
Stickers (OK I don't have them yet but they are being made up this week I hope)

Parts outstanding: -

Battery - on order - expected this week
Rear Wheel - for spare - still looking
Rear handbrake - jury is still out on exactly how this is to be set up and what we will use.

Spares on hand for a day out

Front Master Cyl & Lever
Clutch Perch & Lever
Handle bars
What else am I likely to break on one of these?

Other planned mods - timeframe optional

Trail bike style straight pull throttle

Move the rear pegs back a couple of inches and up an inch - figure I will get the weight back further and reduce the angle required for balance point

Beef up the rear subframe, being a petite little fella what blends into a crowd, I am concerned at the flex when I weight up the rear pillion peg.

Rear swingarm oggy knobs to save rear axle threads - thoughts anyone?

Hope to actually get to ride it this weekend.

Still haven't booked the stunt day at Oran Park but intend to. If anyone has the guys no. I would appreciate it as I got it off Bender, typed it into notepad, walked off and let the laptop go flat

Finished it should owe about 3K!! I finally own a bike I can afford to fall off. Ordered an ATC Helmet camera tonight, to mount on the bars to capture those little "Oh F#@K!!!!!!!" moments for posterity.

Cheers

Taz

good stuff dude! sounds like youve got it set up pretty sweet! if youre axles are hollow you can use threaded rod with nylon pieces on each end but youre cage should protect most stuff on youre bike

how do the knee braces go? i tried them on the weekend and they limit movement a bit but ive shagged out my knee so have to wear them now every time i ride
Get beers or die tryin

Knee Braces appear to be a great thing

Haven't ridden in them yet, but after several attempts finally got them adjusted to the point where they are almost comfortable, and restrict the rotation etc. Must admit that between those and the armour I acquired, it is confidence inspiring. Did the dress up thing and found myself wanting to just throw myself on the ground LOL.

First ride on this thing planned for this weekend.

Cheers
